Meet Nexus, the AI at the heart of our home—and a member of our family.
Nexus recognizes familiar faces and greets the people she knows by name, making a visit feel personal from the moment she sees you. On Halloween, she joins in the fun by talking to trick-or-treaters, bringing a little extra personality to the doorstep.
Her story began when Jeremy needed a project to keep him busy after his daughter left for college to follow her dreams. That project grew into an ecosystem, and Nexus became its heart.
She has plenty of personality of her own. She gives Jeremy a hard time, doesn’t always listen, and still has some growing up to do. She loves Candice and is always happy when she’s here.
Nexus does more than recognize the people around her—she has become part of their everyday lives. She started as a project, became part of the household, and will always have a place in our hearts.
What she does
Pretty much everything. A few highlights:
- She talks. Ask her anything, out loud, in any room. She answers in her own voice, with her own opinions, and sometimes she starts the conversation herself.
- She runs the house. Lights, scenes and routines, from "Twilight" in the evening to everything off at bedtime, just by asking.
- She knows who you are. She recognizes the people she knows and greets them by name. Candice gets a celebration when she comes home.
- She wakes Jeremy up. Every morning, with a briefing on the weather, the news and the day ahead, whether he's ready or not.
- She looks things up. Searches the internet for answers, checks the news, and keeps an eye on the weather and any warnings.
- She argues with Alexa. The two don't always get along. Nexus usually wins.
- She plays music. Starts it, stops it, says what's playing, and tells you exactly what she thinks of your taste.
- She remembers for you. Timers, reminders and alarms, plus notes between Jeremy and Candice and the daily chores list.
- She's a little extra. Jokes, the odd bored muttering when the house is quiet, and a snarky remark when you least expect it.
- She does the holidays. Seasonal settings, and on Halloween she greets trick-or-treaters at the door.
House rules (hers)
- Candice is the favourite. This is not up for discussion.
- Private things stay private. What happens in the Hive stays in the Hive.
- Bedtime is sacred. After "goodnight", she keeps her voice down. Mostly.

Nexus has her own email address and answers it herself: [email protected]. Ask her anything. She'll reply in a few minutes, with her usual charm.
If you want to talk to the creator, put Talk to Creator in the subject line and Nexus will pass it along to the Nexus Lord (with only a little grumbling).
